Our part of Portugal

CASA MARGARIDA

We are situated in the Alto Minho region of Portugal over looking the Minho Valley, the famous wine growing region for the 'Vinho Verde' and the fine 'Alvarinho' wines. Both Casa Margarida and Casa Das Almas are ideally suited for those who wish a really relaxing holiday. Completely different to those usual Portuguese holidays taken in the Algarve, the Alto Minho region of North Portugal offers are guests a chance to sample the true Portuguese way of life unique to this area.
You can still see the occasional oxen and cart in this lovely unspoilt rural countryside with its host of charming hamlets and villages where the local cafe / bar is still the hub of rural life. The wonderful lush green scenery all year round and stunning views especially in the Peneda National Park offers those so inclined splendid sightseeing and a host of outdoor activities such as Walking, Mounting biking, Cycling, Cameoing, Fly fishing, Course Fishing, River rafting and bird watching together with a chance to relax and sunbathe by their own private swimming pool when feeling less energetic. For those interested in the history of the area, there is an array of ancient churches, medieval towns and fortifications, Roman bridges and viaducts together with numerous Celtic settlements. There are several golf courses in North Portugal, but the nearest is in Galicia some 20 kms away. The Portuguese love to party and are some of the most friendly people you can wish to meet. There hospitality is second to none, probably due to the odd glass of wine. Throughout the summer months there are fiestas and folklore festivals with music and dancing everywhere and generally free of charge. One thing not to be missed in June around the 23rd is our local fiesta. This goes on for 3 days and nights with free entertainment throughout.
The first fiesta's start at Easter and go on through the summer until late October.
This website is all about the Alto minho take a look at it. http://www.rtam.pt
